The Valley That Finds You

No one goes looking for the valley and finds it; it finds them. When a traveler in Airistoll reaches the end of their strength, with nowhere left to go, the land itself seems to take their side. The rivers, the paths, and the failing light all begin to run the same quiet direction, until the weary stumble, half by accident, into the one place their trouble cannot follow. They almost never find it a second time, and never on purpose.

Those who arrive are taken in by an order of scholars gathered from every corner of Airistoll. No one remembers who founded the sanctuary; the scholars are simply those it once saved, who chose to stay and keep it for whoever comes next. They set broken bones and sit beside broken hearts with the same unhurried patience. For a few, the ones who come carrying a question rather than a wound, they open the Hall of Answers. But the valley keeps a rule of its own: it gives nothing to those who ask in order to gain, and everything to those who ask only because they need to understand.
